The Trump administration has reportedly taken a break from its intended plans to impose tighter limitations on the sales of Nvidia's H20 chip to Chinese companies, as reported by NPR. The H20 chip, not as powerful as Nvidia’s most recent chips, has been designed considering the existing U.S. export restrictions.

According to the NPR report, the White House had been weighing up the implications of narrowing Nvidia’s ability to trade the chip in China. However, after a dinner event at Mar-a-Lago was attended by Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang, to which the President also made an appearance, these considerations were put on pause.

In response to the report, Nvidia chose not to comment, and the Commerce Department has thus far not responded to inquiries for comments.

Following the news, Nvidia's stock took flight on Wednesday, climbing over 18% as the broader market rallied in the wake of Trump announcing a 90-day pause to most of the tariffs his administration heralded last week. For Trump, who expressed such sentiments via a post on Truth Social, the pause felt necessary given "more than 75 countries" had reached out to his administration proposing trade deals. Still, the pause did not extend to China, facing instead an increased rate as tariffs on Chinese goods ramp up to a whopping 125%.
