Ryan Coogler, the acclaimed director of the film "Sinners," recently had an emotional moment on an episode of "The Breakfast Club," in which he expressed his deep admiration for the late Chadwick Boseman. Coogler was the visionary behind the Marvel smash hit "Black Panther," featuring Boseman. The loss of Boseman, who tragically passed away from colon cancer in August 2020 at the age of 43, was felt deeply by the two who were in the process of developing the sequel.

According to Coogler, Boseman's passing affected his fellow actor, Michael B. Jordan, more keenly than most. "Chad was older than us, noticeably older even though he looked our age. He was a fully mature man, an old-school gentleman. When Chad and I used to work together, Michael and I could only be referred to as youngsters in comparison,” Coogler shared.

Coogler further delved into the profound impact that Boseman had on his life. "Chad was the type of mentor whose lessons you didn’t realize until much later. Working alongside him, Michael and I learned patience. Chad had an unhurried, old-school approach to life. Punctuality was a priority for him. I recall asking Michael, 'Imagine if Chad was portraying this character in 'Sinners,' how would he do it?' The reason being, Chad never strayed from character in between takes."

Enthralled by his work, Boseman always went the extra mile to really embody his characters. This was evident when he persistently used T’Challa’s accent throughout the filming of "Black Panther." Coogler recalled, "Chad spoke with an authentic African accent. A few Disney executives visited us during the second week of filming 'Panther', they heard Chad speaking in T’Challa’s accent and were taken aback. I reassured them, explaining how Chad remains in character till we conclude shooting."

Through witnessing Boseman's extraordinary commitment to his craft, Jordan was inspired to apply the same degree of dedication. As per Coogler's observations, it was Boseman's work ethic that allowed Jordan to excel in "Sinners" by adeptly portraying two roles. "Sinners" will open in cinema halls on April 18th under the Warner Bros. label. You can catch Coogler's full interview on "The Breakfast Club” using the link below.
