Comcast NBCUniversal to Unveil First UK Theme Park
- Apr 10, 2025
Big plans are afoot with Comcast NBCUniversal, who recently revealed ambitious outlines for their first-ever theme park and resort on UK soil. With a planned opening in 2031, the project will transform a 476-acre plot just south of Bedford, England. The plot was acquired by Comcast back in 2023. The park and resort aim to thrill guests with uniquely immersive rides, spread out over many themed 'lands'. In addition, visitors can take advantage of a 500-room hotel and a bustling hub for retail, dining, and entertainment.
“This is a landmark moment for our company that signifies an escalated growth rate for our theme park business and will bring joy to people globally,” expressed Mike Cavanagh, President of Comcast Corporation. “The consummate storytelling and groundbreaking tech that our phenomenal team at Universal Destinations & Experiences harness are an apt match for the UK's vibrant creative arts scene and tourism sector.”
Despite the detailed plans, the theme park proposal must first gain the green light of the UK government. It's expected that the proposal will be submitted within the next few months. Should this be swiftly approved, Universal predicts construction kicking off in 2026.

Mark Woodbury, Chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences noted, “this marks another thrilling stage in our growth as we introduce the Universal brand to the UK. Our expansion into Europe opens up a fantastic chance to connect with new fans and present the exceptional experiences our staff concocts.”
This news comes ahead of future Universal projects, including the Universal Horror Unleashed, a year-round horror entertainment experience coming to Las Vegas in 2025. Upon completion of that project, Universal aims to open Universal Kids Resort, a venue tailored for families with young children, in Frisco, Texas.
